Mirgorod is one of the oldest settlements of the Left Bank Ukraine. Historians suggest that it was founded in the XII -XIII centuries as a guard point of the eastern outskirts of Kievan Rus. The first references to Mirgorod occur in the XVI century. In particular, in 1576, according to the decision of the Polish King Stefan Batorii Mirgorod, he became the center of the Registered Cossack Regiment. During the seventeenth century, the city changed its rulers several times – Polish magnates.
