In most schematisms of the 20th century. it is indicated that this wooden church was built in 1656 or 1657, in some schematics it is given in the 17th century.

It is located in the former suburb of Horishnya Brama. The first mentions of the church of St. George date back to 1496.
In 1657 from the village Nadiyev (today Dolynsky district, Ivano-Frankivsk region) the old church was moved and the existing church was built from its material.
In 1974-1975 it was restored and in 1982 it was handed over to the newly created department of Monuments of Wooden Architecture of the museum “Drohobychchyna”.
Rebuilt in 1678, undermined in 1825. The church was closed in 1961.
The interior of the church is impressive, the walls of which are decorated with frescoes, as well as the iconostasis of 1659-1666 by the painter Stefan Medicsky.
On June 21, 2013, it was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List.
To the north-west of it, a tall wooden three-tiered belfry from 1670 has been preserved. “

It was renovated in 1823, 1833 and at the end of the 19th century.
The frescoes of the nave were made in the last quarter of the 17th century, the choirs were painted at the expense of Grigory Proskurskyi in 1691.
The chapel on the emporium was painted in 1711-1714, the babinets – XVIII century. The iconostasis of the 17th century has been preserved in the chapel.
On June 21, 2013, at the 37th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee held in Cambodia, the wooden church was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
